The first two weeks are all routines
Before we read, write, or count, we learn how to be a room full of friends — and these first practiced days are some of my favorite days of the whole year!
For the first two weeks of kindergarten, we practice EVERYTHING — how to line up, how to open a snack, where our folders live, and where our hands go while a friend is talking.
I know it can look like we haven't quite started yet. But oh, we have! A classroom that knows its routines is a classroom where nobody has to wonder what comes next — and all of that wondering turns into energy for learning, playing, and discovering together.
So when you ask about the day and hear "we practiced lining up," know that I am one proud teacher. Some of the most important lessons of the year look exactly like that. (And yes, we absolutely celebrate a beautiful line like we just won the championship.)
